From Table to Canvas

AFFICHE Expo Table au Tableau Titre def

As part of the 2019 Year of Gastronomy - MPG 2019, coordinated by the Bouches-du-Rhône Department and Provence Tourisme, the Regards de Provence Museum dedicates its three rooms to two exhibitions on the themes of culinary art, the art of living in the South, the art of the table, and more, bringing together works by artists from the 19th to the 21st centuries.

From March 5 to October 13, 2019, the exhibitions "L'Art Mange l'Art" and "From the Table to the Canvas" will delight all gourmets, gastronomes, fine palates, and other connoisseurs with a variety of modern and contemporary artistic visions.

The exhibition From Table to Canvas is dedicated to major works from the collection of the Regards de Provence Foundation and local museum collections, featuring 19th and 20th-century artists, with a particular focus on the art of representing food, fruits, sweet and savory dishes, fish, meats, and everyday objects. Provençal traditions, markets, farms, fishing trades, seaside food, the tradition of the true meal, cuisine, and the art of the table are captured in the evocations of these artists, either from Provence or those who have stayed in the South.

Artists such as Henri Aurrens, Auguste Chabaud, Maurice Arnaud, Pierre Ambrogiani, Raoul Dufy, Maurice Vlaminck, Sauveur Bernay-Théric, Marius Barthalot, Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan, André Verdilhan, Edouard Ducros, Pierre Grivolas, René Seyssaud, André Marchand, Louis Valtat, Félix Ziem, and many others form the pictorial narrative of this Art of Living in Provence.

Three caricature artists, Honoré Daumier, Albert Dubout, and Roger Blachon, present their unique versions of a festive dinner, an erotic banquet, or the art of tasting wine, bringing a humorous and offbeat touch to the entire exhibition.
