As part of the 2019 Year of Gastronomy - MPG 2019, coordinated by the Bouches-du-Rhône Department and Provence Tourisme, the Musée Regards de Provence dedicates its three rooms to two exhibitions on the themes of culinary art, the art of living in the South, the art of the table, etc., bringing together works by artists from the 19th to the 21st centuries.

From March 5 to October 13, 2019, the exhibitions "L'Art Mange l'Art" (Art Eats Art) and "De la table au tableau" (From the Table to the Canvas) will delight all food lovers, gastronomes, connoisseurs, and other fine palates with the multitude of artistic visions in modern and contemporary art.

The exhibition Art Eats Art is dedicated to the gastronomic delights of contemporary artists – photographers, painters, illustrators, sculptors, and videographers – who invite us to rediscover, through their intimate perspective, their prism, and their vision, the simple pleasures of food, its authenticity, cuisine, the table, the ritual of the meal, and the creativity of table arts. It offers a reflection on consumer society, the food industry – the art of seduction through original staging and creative packaging – as well as its abuses, its excesses, and its waste. Each artistic approach, often unconventional and sometimes tinged with irony and provocation, interprets food, nature, the terroir, the harvest, the fascinating transformation of raw materials into a meal, conviviality, exchange, sharing, and the staging of a meal. These artists explore the relationships between culinary and artistic creations and revisit them.

Some appetizing works, in the Eat Art movement, awaken our senses, stimulate our appetite, and satisfy the visitor’s eye and taste. Made from food, meal leftovers, waste, and dishes glued together, “trapped,” and presented on the wall like frescoes, they stage our eating habits and everyday objects.

Table arts that compose the artistic presentation of a meal – sculptures of plates, dishes, glasses, vases – are also highlighted, forming true works of art adorned with motifs that are sometimes poetic or lush, evoking hymns to the sea, nature, and love.

A rich diversity of local and national artists is brought together for this exhibition.
